My iPod touch's screen broke near the bottom right corner?

rottwieler

and im 90% sure it messed up the headphone jack, because only my right headphone works. and its not the headphones because they work on other gadgets. so 1: did the crack mess it up? and 2: where can i fix it for a reasonable price. thanks. best answer gets a straight 10 points!

Answer
1. I think the crack did mess up your headphone jack. You also should try to use different headphones just in case its not the actual device and you wont go through a lot of work that is unnecessary.

2. To fix your iPod for free by Apple, all you have to do is connect your iPod to your computer and iTunes will pop up. Then press iPod under devices, and you will see your serial number.Copy this. Go to this website - https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do and paste your serial in. It will show you if you still have Repair and Service Warranty. If it does you can take it to Apple and they will fix it for free. If you warranty has expired (that means it has been one year since your perchance date) you're out of luck.

How to rewire electrical things?

John

I was wondering if anyone knew of any websites that show how to rewire things. When i say rewire i mean like changing old headphones into an eavesdropping device. Ive always been interested in spies and spy gadgets and I really enjoy the scenes where they are like in hotel room and they like get a lamp and a toaster and turn it into bomb or something(off the top of head). Anyone know of any sites like this.

What is a good present idea for a 14 year old girl?

Tilly

Hi. My niece is turning 14 in a couple weeks time and i have no idea what to get her, she has skull candy headphones, a brand new iPod and a brand new phone! There is no price limit, she likes interesting things like gadgets and things that are trendy and cool she also likes food but doesn't want something boring. If you have any suggestions that would be much appreciated.

Answer
How about something different like taking her to a Broadway show, or to see one of her favorite bands.
What is she into, does she like games, exercise? Something to do with yoga?
A gift certificate for a mani and pedi is always nice.
A gift card for music downloads is always a good thing.
At that age, I wouldn't try picking out clothes though.
Maybe jewelry -- a special pendant on a chain, or charm bracelet.

i am 13 y/o and i am no doubt... over weight... i need an exercise that is simple and shows full results in 5-8 months ... i have alot of time cause i am home schooled... i need an exercise program that does not need any exercise machines cause its too expensive...and i cant go to the gym cause i am too young to go to the gym here...i am from the Philippines and all i see on TV are those weight loss pills and belts that vibrate and i am not into watching shopping channels...i need an exercise program complete with a diet plan... and my budget is 5000 pesos or 100 dollars please help me.. i just need your suggestions ^_^
OK extra edit... i am watching what i eat.. I've been watching what i eat... no candies an chocolates...although i eat just a little chocolate once a week...i dont eat rice or bread and i hate pies and cakes...i cant walk outside or inside cause inside... too much stuff... and out side its rainy and its not safe in these streets...cause of countless robberie reports and allot of dogs...and my dad wont let me...

Answer
Don't bother with the gadgets-- everything they claim to do you can do by yourself. The biggest drawback of working out at home is the distractions and excuses. So if you can get away from your home it is the best. Does your high school have an open weightroom? Can you go out for a sports program? Is there a park nearby? I find the best motivator is my iPod. If I put the headphones in I am isolated from everything else so I can get out and move. Running and walking are free. Getting a diet buddy is also recommended. Sometimes when someone else depends on you you'll do what needs to be done. Sometimes when they show up on your doorstep your excuses evaporate, sometimes you are the one who keeps them going.
You can also try to use your own bodyweight against itself. That being pullups, crunches, pushups, dips, jumpingjacks, etc. There are plenty things you can do for free. You can also look into garage sales. Lots of cheap items can be aquired from them. But be warned sometimes these very items will be in your own garage sale so choose wisely. The simplest item you can buy is a jumprope. I bought one to do between my sets of lifting.
I'm not going to layout an exercise plan or diet plan for you. There are plenty of websites out there that will help. Finding the information for yourself is a sign that you are serious. Just having someone tell you what to do without knowing why is a sign of not being serious.
added after seeing your limitations: are you in an apartment? you could run up and down the stairs.

How do I listen to the tv at the gym?

tictac

At my YMCA there are tbs at te front of the workout room with things on them that will say "tune headset to like 67.63 fm" or whatever to listen to that show, bu how do I do this? I've looked for places to plug in my headphones on treadmills and bikes but I can't find it. I have an iPod touch, do I have to use like a radio or something?

Answer
It is FM wireless set ,Ithink. If it is so, there should be tuning gadget in the head phone itself.
Ask the the reception for help, they will definitely help you fo this. No worry.Thank you.

Sony Video 8 Camcorder - does anyone know where I can lay my hands on an RFU-85 connector?

good headphones gadget show on show us yer headphones! - TranceCommunity

jamieroth

I have a pile of 8mm cassettes, recorded on a camcorder that has long since gone.

I have acquired a camcorder with a view to transferring the movies to my DVD recorder, but the only output provided is the composite adaptor, designated RFU-85, which was not provided with the camcorder. My searches for this adaptor have proved unsuccessful.

Any assistance will be much appreciated.
Thanks, Dennis.

Good point re including the camcorder model details. Yes, it is a CCD-V8AF-E. I have the manual, and it specifies that the connector should be the RFU-85.

The tapes are viewable in the viewfinder.

I'm in the UK, so I believe the PAL format is appropriate. I am a complete novice in this field, but I have doubts whether the RFU-88UC adaptor will be appropriate.

Answer
Hi Jamie:     [UPDATE EDIT -- see below]

Even though you didn't say which Sony model Video8 camcorder you have (that info ALWAYS helps!), I can safely assume you have the old Handycam CCD-V8AF which had the odd 24-pin A/V connector for that "RFU-85" RF & AV in/out adapter.

That's a common problem I see on A/V discussion forums, but it's also an item that shows up on eBay now & then (there's one there now for $7 USD: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SONY-RFU-ADAPTOR-MODEL-RFU-88UC-/121117808157?pt=Camera_Cables_Cords&hash=item1c332f161d ).

You'll occasionally see one that's the "RFU-85E" which is the European model, but the AV out connectors will still work on your US model Handycam. (The RF-out produces a PAL TV signal that won't work on your TV's antenna connection.) But the RCA signals (video and audio) will be fine.

Of all the Video8 replacement camcorders you could buy, you picked one of the hardest models to connect to. Newer Sony's used a simple 3.5mm "headphone style" adapter cable that other AV gadgets commonly use. Your other alternative would be a Hi8 or Digital8 model (compatible with playback of older Video8 tapes). They also used simpler AV-out connections. They also had S-Video outputs for better picture quality.

If your "pile of 8mm cassettes" won't play in the CCD-V8AF (you can verify in the viewfinder), it means your tapes were most-likely recorded on a newer Hi8 camcorder (which uses a different recording format). Video8 & Hi8 tape decks are backward-compatible, but not "forward compatible".

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

===Update edit===
Jamie: There are also the RFU-85E versions on eBay's UK website now & then. One sold back in February for less than 3 quid: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-RFU-85-adaptor-/181079964509?pt=UK_Camera_Cables_Adapters&hash=item2a2934fb5d&nma=true&si=iq1H9a77c30NZoJYo1Pw5NraEkc%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 , and the same Seller has the RFU-88E (which probably doesn't fit your model), but you might contact him for leads via his current auction over the next 9 days: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-RFU-88E-adaptor/181163477498?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D11%26meid%3D8589871090177336281%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D1005%26rk%3D4%26sd%3D181079964509%26

An alternate version that's supposed to also fit is the RFU-87E, so that gives you another model # to watch for on eBay or Amazon, etc.

cheers, --DC

P.S. To fellow Contributor "lare": The Handycam V8AF series only had a proprietary 24-pin I/O connector (for the RFU-85, which was both modulator & A/V in-out adapter with RCA jacks). So, no alternate A/V port like on newer Sony models.

Those are all fantasy.

Sony Video 8 Camcorder - does anyone know where I can lay my hands on an RFU-85 connector?

Video8 & Hi8 tape decks are backward-compatible, but not "forward compatible".

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

===Update edit===

Answer
As happens every year, Apple skipped CES in favor of this week's Macworld. But while the iPod has clearly dominated the market for MP3 players, that doesn't mean other consumer-electronics companies won't come out swinging in 2006. One of the sleeker players on display was Philips' GoGear Jukebox. The jet-black design, ornamented by glowing blue lights that streak up and down as users navigate their playlists, wins big points for aesthetics.

Yes, the new video iPod rules the roost, but Toshiba's Gigabeat S-Series PMC is also pretty cool for those who want a few more options, such as syncing up with Starz' new Vongo video-download service, which allows unlimited access to its catalog for a flat fee of $10 a month. Nice screen resolution and a sleek design also make this a compelling gadget. The player, expected to debut in March or April for about $300, will also work with subscription music services like Yahoo Music Unlimited, Rhapsody and Napster.

The Microsoft booth was home to a slew of new Windows Mobile-enabled wireless devices. Judging from the traffic at the booth, gadgets like the iMate smartphone will widen the mobile landscape in 2006.

Check out this prototype ASUS laptop PC, which includes a handheld accessory for storing things like the owner's calendar, contacts and e-mail. The handheld device clips to the outside of the laptop and is always on to display vital information, thanks to the Windows SideShow capability in the upcoming Windows Vista operating system. For now, the device isn't wireless -- so forget about it doubling as a Blackberry or Treo. But it keeps cached e-mail in memory so that the user can access it without booting up the laptop. That alone makes it a nice feature.

Sometimes a gadget comes along that no one really needs but a good segment of the population will probably really want. That could describe Burton's Audex ski jacket, which has a Motorola cell phone and MP3 player sewn right into the fabric. Headphones and an almost invisible microphone on the collar allow the wearer to answer a phone call without digging around for a cell phone with clumsy gloved hands. Oh, and you'll be turning heads at Aspen. And isn't that what it's really all about?

Motorola's hot line of ROKR phones is about to get even cooler with Oakley's new "OROKR" sunglasses, which have a Bluetooth-enabled wireless headset built in. Models are expected to hit stores in the second quarter of 2006. Future's so bright, gotta wear ... oh, never mind.

Robots! What tech-fest gadget-geek bonanza would be complete without some good robot action? Representatives from Vex, which sells custom robot kits, were on hand to help CES attendees find their robotic mojo.

Car gadgets are always popular at CES. Bravo View Technology's Universal Passenger Visor LCD Screen VS-07 A is just that -- a flat screen that attaches to a car's window visor. Putting it on the driver's side is, of course, not recommended. Meanwhile, Iqua's crowbar-shaped Bluetooth headset wraps around the car's headrest for stylish hands-free communication. Prices range from $150 for the plastic model to $300 for a leather-clad version.

Sling Media showed off its Slingbox, which broadcasts live TV or any other media stream within the home to a mobile device. Just hook up the Slingbox to a cable set-top box, DVD player or stereo system, and it streams content to a laptop or Windows Mobile-enabled handheld. To demonstrate, a Sling Media employee watched live TV from his house using a Pocket PC handheld. The Slingbox costs about $300.

Eton's retro-style emergency radio looks pretty low-tech -- but there's a twist. The radio has a crankshaft that not only powers the radio but can even power up a cell phone! Just hook up your phone, crank the crank for a few minutes, and you're recharged. Sixty seconds of cranking delivers about an hour of radio time. The best part? These babies cost $40 to $60.

How to fix a wet ipod touch 16G?

I'm John C

My ipod touch fell in my toilet for a brief moment like less than one second. What I want to know is will my apple warranty cover it the touch was jail broken, but luckily I was able to restore it back to when it wasn't jail broken. Another thing now is that it won't turn on and the red litmus paper shows red on my touch. What should I do? I heard that if the earpiece jack shows red I can't exchange my itouch so is this true? Thanks!

Answer
ok exact same thing happened me bout a month ago ipod touch 2nd gen 16 gb aswell!!and i got mine to work perfectly today absolutely nothing is wrong with it!! so hope this helps!had to share the good vibes!!

k it fell in the toilet and was totally submerged, same as u i grabbed it straight away so it was in there a max of a couple of secs. my ipod had a rubber case on it that cover the back of it and a a scratch protecting sticker on the screen but the ports wer completely open and the case was a little loose so i dunno if it actually helped in anyway. i panicked started drying it with toilet paper and VERY GENTLY pushed the toilet paper into the openings at the base for the earphone and for charging cable, then i removed the case and dryed any water that had got in behind. my ipod had been asleep in my pocket when it went in so i started pressin buttons to see if it worked the screen came on the picture was perfect but the backing light was gone and touch screen was not responding however power button and vol buttons on sides and top wer. without touch function working tho i could not turn it off like i knew i should so i continued tryin for about 2 mins till the picture broke up and faded and ipod died completely. i was at work so i went out and told people i wrapped it in a towel for 5mins and left it in a warm dry place as someone suggested, then someone else told me to blow it with a hair drier so i did for about 5 mins and then gave up as it did not respond afterwards. i then gave up and left it in my bag till i got home approx 3 hours later. i googled it immediately and learned that a hairdryer is actually one the worst things i could have possibly done! and that the fact that it was powered on was also terrible NEVER turn on a water damaged ipod till u are POSITIVE it has been completely dried. i became resigned to the fact that it was a lost cause however some ppl suggested putting the ipod in a bowl of rice in a warm place so i put it in my airing cupbord in a bowl of rice covered with a towel for about a month. i tryed turning it on a few times over the month BUT i never charged it in case it was still wet just clicked the buttons. today i decided a month was long enough plugged it into my laptop and it said battery flat , took a min but began to charge and every single function on it works 100% perfectly and the picture and lighting is all flawless. sound doesnt seem to have been effected either!! so theres hope for you yet! as regards the red litmus paper in headphone jack i came across this phenomenon while frantically googling solutions and came across this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTVUs-wWCZw&feature=related which might be helpful, wasnt much good to me tho coz i live in ireland and we dont have genius bars. i flashed a torch down my headphone jack after it fell in tho and it was white i think this may have been because i pushed the toilet paper in the openings to dry it almost immediately after pickin it out of the toilet. which may have dryed it before it got to the litmus paper. hope this helps.

p.s. from all my googling i got the impression apple dont cover water damage under warranty.

this site explains the rice method well. http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/toilet/index.shtml

wud be interested to see how u get on, hope i helped!

Sony Video 8 Camcorder - does anyone know where I can lay my hands on an RFU-85 connector?

Video8 & Hi8 tape decks are backward-compatible, but not "forward compatible".

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

===Update edit===

Does anyone know where I can find this video that shows you how to wrap your earbuds in a tangle free way??

Jenny

I remember a while ago (many months ago) that there was a video on the yahoo news that showed you how to fold your earbuds in such a way that they will stay tangle free when not in use. I'm trying to find that video, but i'm not having much luck, does anyone know where to find it?? Thanks
