how can i make and design new gadgets (electronics)?

Christian

Answer
I am not sure what your level of electronics knowledge is but I would recommend starting with doing some tutorials to teach you how to build different circuits so you can learn all the different pieces that can go into a circuit and how to calculate which ones to use to get the result you want.

Most beginner kits will come with a breadboard but it can't hurt to double check.

Then once you know the basics another thing that may be good to start with would be getting a servo kit and learning how to program those. With this knowledge combined with your new electronics knowledge you will be able to start building some cool gadgets.

Also, by going through those learning steps you will surely end up reading about other "electronic gadget" stuff and that will help you find out more of what you may want to learn.

Good luck.

You'd think a piece of toast would be a simple thing, but we've tried several different toasters and have never found one that consistently browns a whole piece of bread. It seems toaster makers only care about the industrial design and gadgets and the basics of toasting are left to the wind.

Psychologically, what causes someone to have an expensive taste?

!

70% of the time, Im not consciously aware Im doing it.

EXAMPLE: I am highly attracted to expensive sports cars and have been ever since I was collecting matchbox cars as a kid. Its not really about status, but I like how they look.

There's a ton more examples : Expensive homes (great architectural design), expensive gadgets, expensive accessories, etc.

Why am I like this knowing I can't afford any of it?

Answer
You describe you like big, bold statement pieces, which is always a status thing really.

All the things you describe are very loud, and obvious about being expensive, you're not describing any of the more subtle, sophisticated expensive things.

Which would be the case if it was about the detail, or quality of the materials.

So I'm pretty sure it's about the status, and life-style you think those riches would bring you.

A few of my interests.
- I love to design structures. (Buildings, and things like that)
- I also like designing gadgets. ( Phones, watches, military gear)
- I could also be interested in the creation of non lethal weapons.
Any job that has at least one of those interests in it would be good.
Also what is the highest paying engineer job and what do they do?

Answer
Take a vocational and professional orientation test. You can find them online.

In any case, see what jobs are available in your area and choose accordingly. Perhaps you can start working in them while you are in school.

What are the NEW and COOL gadgets that will be released or that is released in 2008 or upcoming years?

Answer
On Friday, Oct. 24th, Oprah had her newest favorite gadget! It is a dedicated electronic reader called "The Kindle". You can see one at Amazon.com. This reader can download a book in a minute or less and also can play music and has WiFi capabilities if you are in a Sprint Whispernet area. I was so impressed by the design and functions of the "The Kindle" that I ordered one that very day and should be getting it this Thursday. I read a lot and books are so expensive. Amazon.com currently has just over 190,000 books available to down load (and added more daily) for usually less than half the price of either a hardback or paperback book. "The Kindle" can also download newspapers and magazines (minus adds and some syndicated publishings) for much less than you pay at the newsstands. I searched everything I could find about "The Kindle" before ordering mine and I found very few people who didn't like theirs. Even my husband got excited over this new gadget. Never thought I would like to even think about reading something without actually feeling the paper and smelling the ink just as Oprah said she didn't think she would either, but I am willing to give it a thorough testing because it will pay for itself rapidly! This device was marketed at $399.00, but Amazon has it on sale for $359.00 (sorry folks, Friday was the only day for Oprah's $50.00 discount). There are no additional monthly costs other than the books you buy. You can also download books to your computer if you do not get the Sprint Whispernet in your area, which is what I will have to do. However, if I step just a half-hour drive outside my hometown, I could download as many books as I want without my computer. I go out of town a lot so it shouldn't be a problem for me. You can own up to six 'Kindles' per account and share the books among your family. If you loose you Kindle or something happens to a book, Amazon keeps a copy of each and every item you have download and you can download it again for free. Cool, I think! You can change the font size of your text from very small to very large. The screen is made with "E-ink" and unlike plasma or LCD, you can easily see the text while outside, but if you read in bed at night as I do, you will need a lamp or booklight which is no problem to clip on just as an ordinary book. I could tell you more, but you really should check this out, particularly if you are an avid reader, on the go a lot, or even if you just want to share this with a friend. You can also put it in a ziplock bag and take it to the beach or read in the bathtub (which I love to do!). Hope this helped.

[About engineering?] Also, I want to design consumer products?

Q. I may want to design gadgets or phones and computers but I'm not exactly sure yet. I'm very fascinated by gadgets, though. So, what is someone who designs and creates consumer products like the ones I listed called? Is she/he engaging in applied engineering or no? What would be a title for him/her? Inventor? Engineer? Also, there are many branches of engineering so what would be the title of someone participating in one of those branches? For example, what would someone involved in mechatronics be called (I'm also interested in mechatronics)?

Answer
Mechanical engineers learn how to make mechanical parts for machines or products through the use of casting, welding, and machining.

Same with Industrial Engineers, but they also learn all about how to manufacture a product. The best way to layout a plant for a good quality product, and more.

Both ME's amd IE's learn how to use CAD while in school and take Project Management, Senior Design courses.

But you want electronic products, right? For that, Computer engineering will allow you to program these products or make your own operating system, but it won't let you design the looks or the product.

Mechatronics engineering would teach you how to build products with mechanical and electrical parts, but it is a limited field. Not very broad and not easy to find a job in.
