Help me design a gadget to tell if the pets have been fed?

Q. I want to design a gadget that hangs on the wall or something, and signifies if the household pets have been fed or not, for other family members who may wake up at different times. The only trick is...it would have to reset about every 6 hours, otherwise it would still say "fed" when they have to have their evening meal...any ideas?

How bout a scale? Feed them when they drop below "x" pounds?
