EXAMPLE: I am highly attracted to expensive sports cars and have been ever since I was collecting matchbox cars as a kid. Its not really about status, but I like how they look.

There's a ton more examples : Expensive homes (great architectural design), expensive gadgets, expensive accessories, etc.

Why am I like this knowing I can't afford any of it?

You describe you like big, bold statement pieces, which is always a status thing really.

All the things you describe are very loud, and obvious about being expensive, you're not describing any of the more subtle, sophisticated expensive things.

Which would be the case if it was about the detail, or quality of the materials.

So I'm pretty sure it's about the status, and life-style you think those riches would bring you.
