Windows 7 gadgets problem - help!?

Some time ago my perfectly working Windows 7 Ultimate stopped displaying the "gadgets" in the sidebar properly. The error is present in all of the gadgets and mostly manifests itself as red crosses appearing instead of gadget icons, missing arrow icons for next and previous months in the calendar and the "previous" thing that is written across the calendar but disappears when I hover the cursor over. Even the previews of the clock styles are scre**d, but despite these visual errors, the gadgets work normally, eg. I can change months, the weather displays fine, the other clock styles appear on desktop when selected...

The worst thing is that I have absolutely no idea what caused this and how to repair it and it's becoming really annoying. If anyone has any idea how to fix this and what's causing this please go ahead...

I'm getting close to reinstalling windows just because of this.

Absolute iAmp Widget, to get my favorite online radio station.

Clocks. I like to have a couple clocks set to the time zones I need. My current one is the AGS LED digital clock.

Calendar which shows the whole month. I uses the one included with Windows.

Network monitor. There are plenty out there, so it doesn't matter which.

Weather. Again the one with Windows, set for local weather.
