tom

i am setting up a company to sell gadgets but cant think of anything to call it. can somebody give some thoughts please.

Answer
The Tech Shop.

where can i shop to find gadgets

Elliot J

Answer
You can also shop online at places like Amazon, Firebox and The Gadgetshop.com etc.

I would recomeend that you do your research first though and check out the many review sites on gadgets that you can find online. That way you'll know the pros and cons before you decide on a purchase.

There are many review and gadget sites around like http://gadgetheat.com that keep you upto date with all the latest gadget news.

Hope this helps!

Help to choose name for electronic gadget shop?

Egor

Have 3 domain names
buyfest.com
pricefest.com
montecart.com

Which of them is the most attractive and easy to remember?
Or all names are so-so?
Also got
gethis.com
dealexist.com

Answer
The problem with your 3 domain names is none of them refer to electronics. The name should tell people something about your shop. It can still have style or humor but needs to convey information that is relevant to your business. Gadget Geek for example., or Techtopia.

What do you think the best domain name for electronic gadget shop?
gethis.com
buyfest.com
dealexist.com
pricefest.com
montecart.com

Why do you think so?
From what country are you?

Answer
If it must be from your list provided, I would choose " gethis.com". Because it is an electronic gadget shop, it seems suitable for the buyer to read without feeling pushed into purchasing, but rather it saying unconciously, "they are great products you must try" as if they are going to miss out on the gadgets if they do not purchase. It makes a statement that "they are of worth there value".

The other domain names such as the ones with "fest" at the end. Seems more like a "all the above catagories of merchandise" that will be presented and sold on the site....so i dont feel that it fits. I am from the United States. Though I'm sure others, may have there own opinion, of how the names may present the selves.

"Dealexist.com" I think focuses to much on a "deal", that the buyer may feel that the merchandise, may be "cheap".

"Montecart.com" i would choose secondly. The word "cart" can go both ways from the perspective buyer. But it is still suitable.

How do you shop for assistive technology and daily living aids?

Lauren

I work for a retailer that sells these kinds of products and I'm curious to hear how people like to shop for gadgets.

Not everybody thinks about these things, so here are some specific questions:
Do you prefer to search online or go to a store?
Do you browse looking for ideas or do you search for specific products for specific tasks?
Is what you get / where you shop limited by your income or insurance company?

Answer
Good question, I guess it depends on the client and whether they can get out to a store to look & try things, and if they have mobility issues it can be difficult, so some will shop online for convenience.

As a Youth & Disability support worker many of my clients need different mobility aids and other specialized equipment, many of the clients OTs help them with finding the correct equipment, and even bring the equipment to the clients home, adjust and instruct the client in its use. But some client like to look around the shops for price comparison, especially if they are not eligible for funding.

I had to buy a walking stick last year for myself, I did look online, but was unsure which one would be better for me, because of my hands, so I shopped around for style & price comparison and one of the stores were very helpful, making sure my walking stick was the correct height for me, they even suggested one with an arthritis handle, because of Raynard's in my hands, they even made sure I walked around the store to get the feel of it. They were slightly dearer, but the service made up for the price. Much to my disgust we can't claim for it through our Health Insurance company, which I think is grossly unfair, given how much I pay each month.

I felt this particular store were very helpful and would recommend them, because of the help they offer, even people buying mobility scooter is allowed to drive around the shop and car park to learn how to control the scooter. Where as one of the other stores was less then helpful, hand no suggestion in regards to my hands issue.

I am including Cell Phones in Telephones and not including computers as gadget. Electronic shops are flooded with electronic gadgets of all kinds. Do we need any of them at all ? Or we buy them because the companies producing them wants to sell ?
Edit - Serious answers please. My point is about excessive consumerism and draining out of our finances in buying unwanted gadgets. I am not considering screwdriver etc in my question.

Answer
We don't even "need" those. Mankind lived for hundreds of thousands of years or so prior to the invention of the television just fine. And I'm pretty sure the pyramids and Colossus of Rhodes were built without telephone assistance.

Fridges and microwaves improve food safety and quality and while not strictly necessary, I'll give you that they do serve a generally beneficial purpose. But even now I actually know people who voluntarily don't own TVs or phones and would say they get by just fine (perhaps even better) without them.

People buy what they want. There isn't some mythical force of "consumerism" lurking out there waiting to pounce on you and take your money. There is only Personal Responsibility in purchasing decisions.

Do marketers want to sell you things? Yes. Do they try to convince you that you want or need these things? Of course. Do they make things with the express purpose of selling them? Yes. But it is still up to you to decide what you buy, how much you pay, and if you truly want or need that thing after all. And things that don't sell, disappear from the marketplace.

I mean how many ads do you see everyday that you do walk away from? How many products do you not buy despite persuasive ad campaigns? You obviously have the power not to buy things, so it is illogical to blame the things one does choose to buy on anything other than one's self. The whole "the ad made me do it" argument is facetious self-justification for personal desires.
