About Windows Desktop Gadgets?

I just downloaded windows desktop Gadgets but my system doesn't open it.
Anybody knows where to find a solution?
Thx a mil.
They didn't retire it 'cos it works in my office...
I double-clicked it and it asks what program to use to open the file?
Default is firefox, but it doesn't open, of course...

Desktop Gadgets that you typically download on Microsoft's website are not designed, will not work and will not be installed on Windows XP. They only work with Windows Vista and Windows 7 that's why Windows XP does not know how to open the Desktop Gadget file you just downloaded because it does not recognize them.

It is possible however to use alternatives like Google Desktop or Rainmeter if you want gadgets on your Windows XP Desktop.

Q. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit in Dell Inspiron 1525. I replaced previous vista Home basic and am using 7 for about a year. Few weeks ago i found gadgets automatically got loat from desktop. When i run them, a small white square like icon appears in desktop with no use. what to do?
I do not have backup or system restore.

A few more errrors came during its work spontaneously. like i dont have help content at all (since begining). And my windows explorer opens each folder in separate window even when i corrected it in folder options. Any help, plz give me.
