Traveller Gadgets?

Where can I buy them?

Answer
It really depends on what kind of traveler's gadgets you mean.

Power converters, battery chargers and electronic stuff can all be purchased here for a fraction of the cost of your home country, so just wait till you arrive.

Backpacks, sleeping bags and hiking boots can also be purchased here for very cheap, though their quality is questionable.

Ear plugs, water purifier, insect repellent and such can be found in specialty shops in the larger cities, though these things I would suggest bringing from home.

Books, phrasebooks and travel guides are also best brought from home, though Lonely Planet is confiscated at the border so you might want to consider a different brand.

In Beijing, go to Yashow or Silk Street to get all your cheap travel stuff. If you are seeking something more specific, let me know and I'll try to locate it for you.

when i went to japan i brought with me my phone and ipod. after a month im going back home and im planning to buy two laptops, one iphone, and one ipad. Is there a restriction of gadgets in japan airport.

Answer
When leaving - they will not care how many things you have.

When you arrive in your home country, however, you must declare the value of all of the items that you have purchased abroad. IF that total value is more than your duty free allowance, then you will have to pay a duty on the amount that is over the allowance.

See this page for the form you will fill out on the return flight, and for additional information:
