How to get gmail on your desktop?

Q. I saw that my brother had a gmail icon on his desktop to the right of the screen, and it would show him if he had any mail, even if he wasn't on the internet. He also had a little clock and a calendar. How do I get the Gmail thing?

For some reason, my gmail isn't on my google homepage anymore. How do I put it back on?

Sing into google home page "igoogle"

and add gmail gadget in your homepage using "add stuff" link. This should work.

If you are not able to find "gmail" by click add stuff... just write gmail in the search box after clicking the add stuff link... the top search should be gmail.... with a button called "Add it now"
